Broken torsion or extension spring? We replace it with correctly sized springs, usually the same visit, day or night.
Spring failure is the most common garage door emergency we see. These are the tells.
Look at the spring on the bar above the door. A broken torsion spring shows a clear gap of a few inches where the coil snapped. If you see it, stop using the door.
A spring breaking under tension sounds like a gunshot or a heavy object falling.
It lifts only a few inches, won’t stay up or slams down, because nothing is balancing its weight.
The motor hums or the door reverses after a few inches.
Slack cables often mean the spring stopped holding tension.
On extension-spring doors, one side can sag when its spring fails.
The springs lift the door, not the opener.
They counterbalance the door’s weight so the opener only has to guide it. Torsion springs wind on a shaft above the door and turn cable drums at each end. Extension springs stretch along the horizontal tracks on each side.
When a spring breaks, the full weight of the door lands on the opener or on whoever tries to lift it. That’s why a snapped spring stops everything.
We work on both. Here’s how to tell which one you have.

You get the price after the inspection and before any work. These are the things that move it.
The spring type and how it mounts changes the parts and the labor.
Heavier and taller doors need larger, higher-rated springs.
Two-spring doors get a matched pair.
Standard springs are commonly rated around 10,000 cycles. High-cycle springs cost more up front and last longer.
Worn cables, drums or rollers are cheaper to fix on the same visit than on a second call. See Orlando repair costs.
Please don’t replace a torsion spring yourself. A wound spring stores enough energy to cause serious injury. Leave the door where it is and call us.

Call (689) 400-1172Look above the door for a gap in the coil of the torsion spring. Other signs are a loud bang from the garage, a door that feels very heavy or only lifts a few inches, an opener that strains or stops, and loose or hanging cables.
It isn’t safe to try. The spring carries the door’s weight, so without it the door is very heavy and can drop suddenly, and running the opener can damage it. Leave the door where it is and call.
Standard springs are commonly rated for around 10,000 open-and-close cycles, which is often 7 to 10 years of normal use. High-cycle springs last longer, and Orlando’s humidity can shorten the life of any spring that isn’t maintained.
Yes, on a door with two springs. They’ve done the same number of cycles, so when one breaks the other is usually close behind, and a matched pair keeps the door balanced.
We strongly advise against it. A wound torsion spring stores enough energy to cause serious injury, and setting it safely takes the right winding bars, the correct spring size and experience. It’s a job for a trained technician.
